A stunning five-piece, top-flight band from Ontario. Powerful vocals, dazzling instrumentals, stunning stage-presence. These five play their original Canadian Folk Music with great panache. Their stage show is exciting, uplifting, amusing. They are high-energy entertainers.

Five great voices, solo and in harmony - each one capable of taking lead, though probably the most leads are shared between Steve's assured tones and Al - who a radio presenter once described as having a voice half-way between melted chocolate and sex. They are strong instrumentally as well, with Al Parrish on double bass, Steve Ritchie on rhythm guitar and occasional pennywhistle, Sandra Swannell on fiddle and viola, Rob Ritchie on piano and the amazing Terry Young on almost everything else: guitar, mandolin, banjo and pennywhistle (and he has a gorgeous tenor voice, too). Note for the 2008 UK tour Rob Ritchie will be replaced by the wonderful Robert Graham as special guest pianist.

"Superior musicians who are able to play with utter abandon and still achieve an exceptionally high musical standard...a genuinely super band of vigorous, head-shaking, hair-tossing wildmen." - Stephen Pedersen Halifax Herald, Nova Scotia

Tanglefoot sing songs written by bandmembers past and present, sometimes solo and sometimes in collaboration with other writers. They are particularly known for their strong story-songs involving aspects of Canadian history or culture. But forget dry, dusty history lessons because these are stories about people - the small picture that tells the big one. They include folklore and fakelore and just a few of the traditional French songs of the Voyageurs who traded into the inerior of a (then) unknown land - by canoe.

“Simply one of the best live groups I have ever seen.” - Sheree Gillcrist, Music Bulletin

"Strong songwriting, a crowd-pleasing bundle of talent and energy... the kind that gives folk music a good name." - Nancy White, The Toronto Star

I started bringing Tanglefoot to the UK in 1998 and introducing an unknown five piece band to a new audience was daunting, but I'd seen these guys play at the Lunenburg Festival in Canada and I knew British audiences would love them if only I could get them into the right venues. My everlasting thanks to those venues which took a flyer on them on that first tour... organisers immediately booked them back, fans - known affectionately as Footheads - started to follow them round to many gigs on the same tour and pushed venues in their own areas to book them for the next tour. It's not unusual to have a venue organiser in Birmingham call me up and tell me he has audience coming from as far away as Blackpool and Hull. Eleven tours later and Tanglefoot's tours book up quickly. By May 07 there were already 14 confirmed dates for May 08 and that could have been 16 except that three venues in very close proximity on the Wirral all wanted to book them and, to be fair to everyone, they should only do one. (So the others have already asked for first refusal on a date in 2009 and 2010 respectively!!) They area a dream band for an agent to work with. Really great, friendly people, easy to get along with, totally professional, fantastic musicians and incredibly popular. (Also very efficient and happy to use their own PA in clubs, halls and small theatres.) Regular venues are confident that Tanglefoot will always pack the place! Audience reaction is always 110% positive and they have a large and ever-growing mailing list. What more could anyone ask for!

So what's the downside to booking this band? Er... none that can think of except... if they stay with you after the gig... hide your hair conditioner. (Just kidding.)
