Spacious & Spunky! This head turning duo plays fresh west coast folk with celtic roots, world influences, and a dash of jazz.  5 string fiddola, groovin' guitar, soulful songs and entrancing presence.
2006 Western Canadian Music Awards Nominee,
2005 Canadian Folk Music Awards Nominee.

poshplayJaime RT is an innovative violist who is putting the sound of West Coast Folk on the map. Her debut album "Reach" was nominated for a Canadian Folk Music Award and her original writing is winning composing accolades. Her music has been featured on CBC's Vinyl Cafe and radio stations around the globe. Jaime and Andy Hillhouse have recorded a stunning new album "Spark" on the Dog My Cat Record label which will be released this fall; the album features the expansive original music of RT and Hillhouse, and the unique sound of the Jaime's 5 string viola (fiddola). Jaime and Andy will be touring across the Canadian landscape and heading to Europe this year. RT can also be found touring from sea to sea playing fiddola and keys with Canadian folk legend James Keelaghan.

jaimeJaime first toured the UK as part of James Keelaghan's trio in the spring of 2007, earning much praise from both the audience and James himself and many invitations for organisers to return with the new duo of herself and Andy.

Andy, of course, is no stranger to these shores, having toured here for several years with the phenomenal Canadian folk-rockers Mad Pudding. He is the consummate musician, not only a gifted guitarist, but also a talented vocalist, songwriter, composer, music educator and nice guy. He has done it all, from touring Mexico playing Mariachi music to performing on main stages at major folk festivals. He plays guitar with Jaime RT, as well as Canadian roots groups Cleia and The McDades. Andy was a member of the Juno-nominated vocal collective Musica Intima from 1994 to 2005, is former director of the Universal Gospel Choir, and has directed the Youth & Concert choirs at the Sarah McLachlan Music Outreach. He holds an MA in Ethnomusicology from the University of British Columbia.

andyTogether, Andy and Jaime create music that moves your feet and your soul.  Guaranteed.

"I met Jaime about three years ago, in the most unlikely place, Forth Smith, NWT. She was an instructor at a youth fiddle camp hosted by Strings Across the Sk. I was blown away by her energy and enthusiasm. She is the type of performer that can't stay still. Even in the studio she bounces and dances around when she plays". - Cosmic Debris

A typical set might include 80% original and 20% traditional music from our albums, plus the newest latest greatest. They also have a large repertoire of traditional Irish, Scottish, Cape Breton, French Canadian, Old Time, Metis, and Swing music.  Andy can sing anything, from Mozart to Van Morrison.

Jaime RT also loves to share her musical passion with kids and would be available to do some schools workshops in the UK while she's here. She is often found trekking throughout the Canadian Arctic with Strings Across the Sky or enthusiastically working her magic at fiddle camps. Fiddleworks is her company, dedicated to innovative fiddle education through music camps, teaching books, recordings, videos, internet, & lessons.

spartSpark
Jaime RT and Andy Hillhouse

Spark showcases Jaime RT’s new instrument – the 5-string viola that she has lovingly penned the “fiddola” – a new musical partner in guitarist Andy Hillhouse and her dedication to exploring a variety of musical styles. Ten original compositions and two well-chosen cover tunes that feature Andy on vocals are spiced with flavours from the folk, celtic and world music genres. A jig is layered with a funk groove, traditional fiddle tunes carry elements of jazz and an instrumental duet with slide guitarist Harry Manx touches on Eastern blues elements. Jaime RT is creating fresh, vibrant West Coast fiddle music based on an age-old tradition, establishing a new modern branch on the folk tree. An auditory “fiddola” feast!
